A Red Sea industrial city with two ports
Yanbu Industrial City was established in 1975 and is run by the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. It holds oil refineries, petrochemical complexes and dependent factories. Because it is a Red Sea oil export centre, many of its facilities never stop, and they bring in large numbers of contractors during maintenance shutdowns.
Yanbu has two ports. King Fahd Industrial Port has served refineries and heavy industry since 1982. Yanbu Commercial Port handles general cargo, containers and passengers, and it is one of the sea entry points for pilgrims. The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has signed a contract to develop an integrated logistics centre at the commercial port, adding demand for warehouse and truck gate guarding.
Yanbu Al-Bahr is the centre of housing and trade, where most residents live, and its beaches draw domestic visitors during holidays. It has hotels, furnished apartments, malls and schools, and its needs are closer to those of a coastal town than an industrial city.
