The oasis, dates and industry
Al-Ahsa Governorate has four main cities, Hofuf, Mubarraz, Al-Uyun and Al-Omran, plus dozens of villages, with Hofuf as its seat. Al-Ahsa Oasis is one of the largest palm oases, and its cultural landscape was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018. The trade in dates and farm produce continues today, with packing plants, cold stores and yards whose traffic changes with the harvest.
On the industrial side, Al-Ahsa appears among the cities overseen by the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (MODON). MODON has announced a contract for 80 ready-built factories in the Al-Ahsa and Taif industrial cities, as well as a MODON oasis in Al-Ahsa. These new plants mean gate guarding demand from small and medium facilities that may need no more than one guard per shift.
Heritage sites in the oasis draw visitors from inside and outside the Kingdom, and hotels and parks get busy in holidays. The city also has shopping centres, private schools, offices and hospitals in Hofuf and Mubarraz, with needs different from Dammam and Khobar.
