Jazan City for Basic and Transformative Industries
The biggest industrial change in the region is Jazan City for Basic and Transformative Industries on the Red Sea coast, developed in cooperation with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. It includes the Jazan refinery, with capacity of 400,000 barrels a day, which started up in 2021 near Baysh with its own marine terminal. Its presence means contracting and maintenance firms and suppliers, and demand for gate and worker housing guarding outside the refinery itself.
The Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (MODON) also oversees an industrial city in Jazan, with small and medium factories and warehouses serving the region and its towns.
Beyond industry, Jazan's economic life rests on farming, fishing and trade. The region includes Jazan city, the seat of the emirate, and the governorates of Sabya, Abu Arish, Samtah, Baysh, Ad Darb and Farasan.
